New Brain Science Study Analyzes How to Maximize Learning Retention

How To Maximize Learning RetentionAxonify has teamed up with brain science leaders from Faculty of Health at York University and the prestigious Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest to better understand and leverage cutting-edge neuroscience research to maximize learning retention.

With investment from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Drs. R. Shayna Rosenbaum, Alice S. N. Kim, and Sylvain Moreno, experts on psychological processes of learning and memory and their underlying mechanisms, will lead the collaboration, which will focus on memory research and knowledge retention.

By bringing together academic research and empirical data based on real corporate learners, the research team alongside Axonify’s product experts will study, modify, and optimize the algorithm that drives Axonify’s proprietary Personal Knowledge Map™ to help maximize knowledge retention in corporate learners.

The core component of this study is the algorithm that through retrieval-based practice establishes the learner profile and knowledge baseline by seamlessly identifying and analyzing the existence of knowledge gaps. Through the neurobehavioral science of interval reinforcement, the algorithm automatically fills and closes the identified knowledge gaps through an iterative process that enables sustainable knowledge retention through the creation of a continuous learning model.

Dr. Rosenbaum and her team will closely monitor the aggregated algorithm usage performance data and create ongoing adjustments and improvements to the way the algorithm analyzes both the cadence as well as the frequency of knowledge delivery. These adjustments will be based on historical statistics combined together with a decade’s worth of neuroscience research that explore the connection between hippocampal contributions to retention and retrieval of recent, remote episodic and semantic memories.

Indeed, the ability to relate critical neurological research to learning methodologies is one thing, integrating and optimizing actual findings into a platform used by millions of people in multiple languages across the globe on a daily basis, is another.
